Last weekend, the corporate move finally took place.
We moved the 2nd fastest startup in silicon valley.

I came in on Saturday night to get the core systems online.
Most had finally arrived that the new building.
We have moved to 220v power strips since power supplies run more efficiently at 220 than 120.
Most machines have auto sensing supplies.
Well.....
The CVS server that holds all the company source code is old enough to need a switch flipped for the other voltage.

***KAPOW!!!***

We hit the IT graveyard & did a poser supply transplant.

Then we re used that outlet on the power strip

Again:

***KAPOW!!!***

This time the server survived but weve burnt out 4 outlets in a row on the power strip.

I got out of there at 5:30 am and was back at 2 PM.
The rest of the servers arrived and I escaped around midnite.

So the usual pandemonium reigned on Monday morning.
Traffic was a pain so it was nearly 8 by the time I got in.
We took over a conference room as a "move control central".

I dont have a phone!

Someone stole my chair!

My computer doesnt work!

We had told the engineers NOT to plug anything in in the lab without checking with the lab manager 1st.

Now after an engineer plugs in a machine and it goes BANG! (yes like a firecracker),
you would expect him to be shy about plugging anything else in, but NOOOOOO.
3 engineers had 2 BANGS each and another had a single.
7 BANGS in 1 morning made things more exciting.

We also discovered that we had a bad section of Starline overhead power bus.
We were only getting 60v off a couple of the 220v plugstrips coming off it.
And then wed plug in a solitary 120v power strip driven off the same bus and for a moment the 3 troublesome 220v strips would wake up and then theyd drop back to 60 again.

Usual fun & games for 1st day in new building.

Thursday morning was scary quiet. We went from pandemonium to quiet over night.
Friday night after dinner I managed to close 30 trouble tickets.

Theres still some low priority stuff back at the old building to deal with, but we are settling in nicely.
