may... already?
2013-May-10, Friday 23:57Not a lot is happening.
Im still back in job hunt mode.
Im relieved to be rid of 90mi each way.
The money was good but the drive wasnt and what I thought they brought me in to do and what they wanted me to do were 2 different things.
I am a sysadmin and they wanted me to do something else and I couldnt wrap my head around what they wanted.
I told them I was having problems getting the hang of things and they mentioned that they had the same concern.
We agreed that this was just not a good match.
Being a contract, I dont get unemployment (bummer)
Ive been out on a few face to face interviews which is good.
Lodema is off the next 2 weekends for the tail end of Southern Faire.
Just before she left, we checked the hives again.
I needed to know if they were ready for a 3rd box on the fast hive.
The fast hive isnt going as fast as it was, and this is a relief.
I was scared to death they would grow to fast and split.
I think we have 3-4 weeks before we add a 3rd super to the fast hive.
The slow hive we had left both the feeding cans that came with the packages and in addition, a 1quart jar of syrup in a Boardman feeder,
all sitting on top of the frames in the lower super and an empty super around them with the lid on top.
Now that they have finished all that, we pulled the feeders and inserted fresh frames in the upper super.
We also swapped a few of the fuller frames from the bottom with the new frames on top to get them the idea that there actually were more frames up on top.
Poking " Langstroth bee hive diagram " into your favorite search engine will help this all make better sense.
Last weekend, we had the Miwok 100km foot race in Marin.
This year we were HQ out of the Stinson Beach Community Centre which is the best HQ theyve used in years except 1 thing.
Its in an RF dead zone. We knew this already, so we parked a pickup truck part way up the hill with a cross band repeater in it so that
we could talk through it to the repeater on top of Mt Tam and all the other radio people on the mountain.
I arrived somewhere between 3 & 4am.
I had the roads to myself until I made the turn onto Shoreline Hwy and found myself 2nd in the peloton of cars.
I peeled out at the Stinson Beach Fire Station and the rest of them went to the beach parking lot to part.
It was a nice drive in the moon light.
When I got there I found out that Id beaten "Net Control" there.
And then I found out that a few hours earlier, the rangers had cancelled the north loop due to the red flag" fire alert.
This meant they were only going to be running 38 miles instead of 60.
A lot of runners were upset, but most ran it anyway.
The last runner was in just before dark which was great.
Usually, the last one comes off the mountain around 11pm.
I was actually in bed by midnight.
Sunday morning had me out at Campolindo HS in Moraga for the Grizzly Peak Century 100mi bike ride.
I rode in 1 SAG wagon as radio op in the morning and after lunch went to patrol the south loop with another SAG wagon.
It was long weekend. I note that both events had a north loop, return to start and a south loop with a return to start.
1 is a 100km and the other a 100mi.
Actually, the GPC North Loop is 100km which gives you a metric century and after the south loop is becomes an english century ride.
Towards the end, we were driving reverse route looking for stragglers when we realized that part of the route could not be reverse swept due to 1 way streets!
I had a flat the other day, and when I went in to have it repaired, I found out one of my other tires was bald.
When Im not working, 2 tires is pretty expensive.
I think they put on tires that are just a bit wide though.
Im checking to see if they are rubbing on the skirt of the tire well.
Brain fried, core dumped...
