Day job contract ended last Friday.
I wrapped up on Friday the 13th. Gotta be something there.

Im back to the job search.
Some recruiters are OK, but some dont seem to have 2 brain cells to rub together.

I still have the 0130am shift at Amazon, which actually pays better than unemployment,
so that will cushion things just a tad.

It would appear that the US screwed up in Afghanistan, yet again.
Im not ready go further into detail on that train wreck at this time.

When I went to turn in my laptop at the end of the day down at the IT helpdesk, they gave me the laptop bag.
That was interesting. They said they didnt reuse them.

I had started out completely remote from home, then once a month, then twices a month then weekly, finally M W F.
During my lasrt few weeks, i chose to work 5 days a week from work.
The triple monitors there made work easier and I wanted to complete as much as I could, in the time left.
On days I went in, I built up a sleep deficit.
I was getting up at 2330, starting Amazon shift at 0130, getting out of Amazon at 0630 and at day job at 0700.
Then I was getting out of day job at 1600, but often not getting to bed til 1900.
Sleeping most of the weekend helped.

Free lunch in the cafeteria was nice though.
I suspect this was to keep us from going out to lunch and bringing Covid back with us.

Around the start of July, entry to Amazon changed.
First, kiost after turnstyle was someone offering free masks, then the temperature check, then someone asked you questions about symptoms and scanned you.
First week in July, the question kiosk disappeared.
A week later, the temperature check went away (thermal camera).
A few days after that, the thermal scan at day job went away.
Once the pandemic started, Amazon had us enter throught the front turnstyle, but exit through a rear exit.
Mid July, we started using the fron exit turnstyle again.

With Delta, we went back to the rear exit again.
Over the month of July, the barriers out on the floor began to come down.
The vaccination & testing area are slated to go away later this month.

Less than half the people from my crew from Nov & Dec are still there.
Its a little sad, but Kaitlin & Mary are off to nursing school, and some are definitely going on to better things.
Gabe who went through orientation with me is still there but thinking about leaving in the fall.

After the holiday peak, the order picking facility at OAK7 at the far end of our building shut down.
A few months ago, the last of the robots drove themselves up ramps onto shipping pallets and left.
"Alas, Kiva, I shall miss you!"
Since then, most of the conveyors are gone and OAK 7 is being converted to a new mission, processing returns.
They tried to poach me, but the job over there would not have me moving enough.
Saturday morning, I covered 8.6mi during my shift.

Our shift is 4 hrs, can be flexed up of down by up to an hr,
but I have an agreement with the Area Managers to do 5hr shifts every day, 6 days a week.
I was up to 630, ready to go when they had a truck arrive, a total disaster.
I ended up going 25 min over that by the time I clocked out.
I hope I dont get the hairy eyeball from HR.

After that, I grabbed an hr cat nap and headed for Mt Tamalpais.
We are finally doing radio community service again for the first time since before the pandemic.
This weekend was the Mt Tam Epic Bike Fondo, from Ft Cronkite to the top of Tam & back.
I managed to log another 15 mi that day running around, including getting EMS into a remote area for a cyclist with an injured knee.
Then I went down to start/finish for luch after and got another 1 hr nap.
Then I was off to Menlo Park for my first CABAL meeting since Aug 2019.

I finally got home somewhere around 0200 and fell sleep in the driveway.
It was quite the weekend.

Dickens Faire was on for this year but cancelled 2 weeks ago for Delta.

Rennfaire is still on, albeit masked.
Im looking forward to seeing Devon Black again, for the first time in 8 yrs.

CABAL was fun, while I didnt wear the "Daisy Dukes" (It was cooling off) but I wore 31in waist pants
which was still tight enough to raise eyebrows.

The community service kickoff luncheon in early July was when I freaked out the radio guys,
who all GAINED weight over the pandemic.
I also got quite the sunburn. Id not spent much time outdoors since fall of 2019.

So Rennfaire build is this coming Sat, and I hope Im ready.
I still have to make a new outfit for Renn, but I have till mid Sept.
Im trying to figure out how to do breeches that will expand if I ever gain again.

Pity they wont allow me to wear a kilt there...
