The upper mid west is a strange place.
I still havent figured them out all the way.

Theres this culture (no not spoiled food in the fridge) called Minnesota Nice.
A lot of people up there, not just in Minnesota, but that region where they are just SOOOO nice.
Nice to the extent of creepy. Think Stepford Wives creepy.

I was rather surprised that it was necessary for Minneapolis PD to kneel on the neck of a guy
already on the ground in handcuffs.
LThey should have let him flop around on the ground till tired.
A handcuffed man will be slow to get up if he tries and quite vulnerable to a simple ankle trip.
Once cuffed, he poses very little danger.
The officer also has the option of ankle cuffing as well and that WILL keep the prisoner pretty much immobilized.
Theres no reason to kill him unless you are a rat bastard.
Alas, this cop WAS.

Amy Klobuchar seemed a somewhat stable political candidate, but she made a costly mistake.
Years ago, she was prosecutor and refused to prosecute a certain cop.
This cop went on to kill a couple more poeple later and finally Mr Floyd.

Mr Floyd wasnt a total angel himself, but he wasnt bad enough to execute.
The police are using his past as an excuse.
This is a real bad idea, because it will eventually be used as a weapon against police.
We went through that with Trayvon Martin, also not a choirboy, but not deserving to be executed.

Now, Amys political career is in ashes and we are probably stuck with Willie Browns toadie Kamala Harris as VP.
Biden will be a 1 term pres, if he wins and in 2024, Harris will get shot down in flames,
probably ushering in Jared Kuschner as the next president.

There was a program kept on the QT,
where the military made equipment available to civilian police depts.
Once the population got wise, Obama was forced to shut it down (It started before Obama).

Everything was cool until the retards of the US banded together and installed the "Wannabe Dictator" of the US.
The Loser of NY reinstated this military equipment program.
This is the same guy guy who said "Whats the point of having nukes if we cant use them?"

China has made their Chairman President for life. Putin is about to be made pres for life too.
My guess is that Trump will try next.

Anyone ever heard of the Kensington CA Police dept?
Kensington is between Berkeley & El Cerrito, occupies less than 4 square miles and has
a population of around 5000.
Unincorporated town does have a police dept with 2 squad cars.
They also have a SWAT team complete with a closet of full auto weaponry.
(Ive seen the closet) They dont have a tank that i know of.
(Ill check back with you if i find one)

Back to Minnesota...
In a desperate attempt to shoot themselves in their OTHER foot, they declared a curfew in Minneapolis.
The curfew relates to public spaces and does not apply to private property. (Ive seen the document)

So, this weekend, a quad in full riot gear and an armored personell carriers started driving residential neighborhoods ordering peoplke to go inside.
Those who remained on their front porches were told in course language to get the *** inside,
and then the order was yelled "Light them up!"

Near as I can tell, this was a MPD operation, but because military gear was used,
the Minnesota Nat Guard is getting the blame.

So much for Minnesota Nice....

Meanwhile, the wannabe dictator is demanding more police action.

While the hospitals are clamorring for PPE, I notice that the riot cops have all the PPE they need.
M95 masks and a face shield to boot!

Whenever there is a problem, there a group that comes out and screams how we need more police.
When the unrest is related to police over reach, adding more police will not quell the problem.
In fact, it will just enflame the situation even worse.
These people who supposedly know best, are to stupid to realize this simple fact.

People get frustrated when I point out that the majority of the worlds population are not very bright.
(Reference "The Marching Morions" by Cyril Cornbluth, You can find it on the net, for for free)

Some time back, "Occupy" had promise.
They had a large number of people with lots of time on their hands.
They had the manpower to surveil politicians and tell the world who these politicians were hanging with and embarass them into better acquaintces.
Instead, they degenerated into a mess.

Unknown to a lot of us, a number of very wealthy people whho had a lot to lose,
dumped large quantities of supplies on Occupy. There is some proof of this.

This attracted a bunch of loonies into the mob and eventually they just had an ugly mess.
This is pretty obvious.

What is hard to prove is whether provocotiers were actually sent into the ranks by people bent on
destroying the movement or not.

So, now we have otherwise peaceful demonstrations that devolve into looting and burning.
I try to stay away from conspiracy theories,
but Im really wondering if troublemakers are being sent into the demonstrations to derail them.
These troublemakers, in turn give justification to further militarization of police services.

Meanwhile Im still laughing from some of the musical parodies on Covid.

Ive been tracking covid numbers by state since early Mar.
The numbers rise in each state daily, but by less than 1000 per day in most states, except CA & IL.
Even NY is having days below 1000.

This is a mixed thing.
On one hand, we arent melting down the hospital system, on the other,
flattening the curve too much will mess up the upcoming vaccine trials.

Moderna starts in phase 3 in July with a 30,000 person sample.
If this works, we might have vaccine available at the end of the year.
They are so optimistic, they are going to manufacture 100 million doses and sit on tyhem until they get approval.

Are we in too much of a rush?
Not yet, but maybe.

At this point, I out myself, after many monthsd of unemployment, I have landed.
Im now in health care, specifically in medical research.

Whats interesting is that the amount of time to develop a vaccine has dropped dramatically thanks to computational chemistry.
At this point, the development phase is WAY shorter than it used to be, and its the testing trials that take the time.
You cant really shorten the testing phase much though, even with technology.

The old way of doing a vaccine was to either intoduce a weakened live virus or a killed virus to the body.
In the 50s, there was an accident when live Polio was released in place of killed Polio and we had an
uptick in Polio and the whole Polio vaccine project was set back several years.

Whats new, is introducing a strand of RNA to the body to react to.
Other tactics include introducing a chunk of protein to the body by various methods.
One includes a genetically engineered virus that makes this protein that looks just like the skin of COVID
upon injection to the body.
Another involves a self replicating protein that also mimics the COVID.
What these all have in common is that you do not onject actual virus into the body.

The aftermath of this is that we will take another shot at a number of vaccines that have so far eluded us.
The chase after COVID MIGHT give us another shot at HIV.

We have 20 candidates going into trials with another 120 still in development.
Moderna is probably the furthest along.
Moderna is part of Novartus, a Swiss concern. Moderna is working with Massachussetts General.
This means PROBABLY the US will get first crack at Moderna Vaccine.

Another reason we are moving along so quickly is that, we had a bit of a head start.
The first SARS scared the US Army as did Marburg & Ebola.
The first SARS and the MERS both died out on their own before they could get anywhere in development.
(Proper containment, and they might not have been quite as contageous as SARS2COV19.)

Walter Reed Army Hospital continued research and this research along with others gave us a bit of a head start on the current bug.

Finally on the China bashing front:
The Chinese govt is sitting on a poweder keg that I dont know how long they will be able to keep bottled.
They particularly try to keep a lid on news about disease and pollution for fear that they may lose the ability of quelling a rebellion.

The locals in Wuhan were worried about not looking bad to Bejing.

Bejing was worried about panic bringing about a rebellion in the country.

In China, they offer a bounty on research papers getting published to the tune of $10k US.
As a result, they are slow to release data.
Once someone gets their data published and they colledt their bonus, they are quite willing to share info.
Until they get their bonis, they guard it very carefully.

Its easy to make the Chinese the bad guys in this, and they are not innocent,
but you have to look at whats going on, before you go off.

We have a lot of chaos on our hands at the moment.

I actually see SARS2COV19 as something that will revolutionize healthcare for the better.

I see it forcing us to do a bunch of things we needed to do already.
Alreaady housing prices in the bay area are tumbling, as people ger permission to work remote from now on and move out of the area.
This will ease slightly the housing crisis.

What Im hoping for, but not seeing, is the govt telling the corp world that if they didnt save up a full year of operating expenses, dont expect to get bailed out by the government.
If you buy back stock instead of save for a rainy day, you deserve to fail.

We have known for a long time that cruise ships were petri dishes.
Every year, there is a nasty bug on a few of them.
I note that when one of the cruise lines announced that it would start up again in August,
people flocked to sign up again.
Without better health programs, cruise lines should be told that they will be allowed to fail and their passengers should expect a 2 week quarantine at the end of each cruise.
Im not sure anyone has the balls to do that either.

Anyway, between the political and the virus, some desperately needed things will emerge.

I note that people are finally realizing that the stock market numbers do NOT represent the state of the economy.
When someone brags about the market numbers,
people are finally realizing that the economy does not neccessarily represent that same state.
