Friday Alameda
2005-Feb-25, Friday 23:55More phone tag on the job front.
Another phone message from while I was out last night.
Went to Alameda to the radio club there.
They meet on the old Navy base there.
The Vice Dir of Pacific Division of ARRL
(American Radio Relay League)
spoke on Winlink 2000.
Its a system that allows acceess to the internet from ham radio.
Its a crappy peice of technology.
I had fun heckling the speaker Andy.
The Winlink 2000 people get upset when people propose a LINUX version.
They insiste that connecting anything non microsoft to the system
will take the whole thing down.
They really should know better.
If it obeys the protocol, the OS shouldnt matter.
Considering that the guy heading up thye whole Winlink project is the
father of the whole Palm Pilot software thing, he SHOULD know better.
The ARRL actually threatened to take my position away if I didnt
stop talking about LINUX nodes to Winlink.
Andy is a nice guy, I like him.
I expressed how the Winlink folks are being buttheads.
I also told him that untill they quit being buttheads,
he should quit complaining about the dearth of Winlink nodes in Northern CA.
and that the Winlink people need to be thumped.
