I awoke in the car in the driveway.
Dad startled me awake asking if I could move the car.
Somehow I made it home but not as far as the house.
Im still. I gotta quit falling asleep in the car.

Changed clothes, headed out again.
Got an extension on my ticket out in Pittsburg.

Headed into work. Id packed the server last night.
Actually Thurs wasnt that late a night workwise.
Id popped by Milbrae and caught the end of the BAFUG meeting
and THEN gone home and fell asleep in the car.

Anyway we loaded everything up and headed over to Fleamont to he.net.
I recognized k6oj car. Dual vhf whips and a 20meter hf in the back.
Tom & Anton were surprised that I recognized the car.

I got in and realized my fanny pack was back in San Mateo.
Tom & Anton went in, I had to go back and get it, as well as some
cables we left behind. Tom loaned me his car
(Id ridden with the server in Antons van)

He forgot to warn me it was a stick shift, but I still rememebr how
so it was OK. Looks like hell but it handles great.

Got everything in San Mateo (Including an extra 6 pack of diet coke).

(EEK! When did I start LIKING diet coke?!?!?)

Thats when I realized I had my passport in my day-runner after all.
I actually DID have ID with me at HE. (ARGH!)

Got back, got in the co-lo. Met up with k6oj and chatted, found my crew.
Recognized several people there that i knew from other places.

Our 2 racks are in row 5. The new rack we just rented is in row 12.
ACK! HE is outta power so they raised their rates to $1000 a month per rack.
Argon is re selling he service for half that so we went with Argon.
(Im in the WRONG biz!)

HE ran some cross connect cables in the cable tray for us.
Unfortunately their desk guy took the order wrond and they ran the
cable to the wrong rack.
1237 instead of 1273 ! (Dyslexics of the world! Untie!)

We had them run 1 of them serial. Could not get the serial connection
from the 4500 in row 12 to the console server in row 5.

Now I KNOW Im making a comeback.
My 1st PERL script off the top of my head, and recognizing friends
in a co-lo all in 1 week!

Took most of the night before I realized that their "straight through"
cable went:

1-wht/blu 2 blu 3wht/or 4-or 5-wht/grn 6-grn 7-wht/br 8-br
and at the other end:
1-wht/blu 2 blu 3wht/grn 4-grn 5-or 6-wht/or 7-wht/br 8-br

More dyslexia ?
Whats scary is their test gear said it was ok.

Wed hit the enter key and get gibberish as if the baud rate or party
were screwed. We checked but this was not the case.

I made both ends identical and now we got NOTHING! WTF?

And then suddenly MY dyslexical compensation system kicked in.
They started to crimp RJ-45 on both ends of the serial cable
but we had them put a female "puck" on the end with the term
server since the tarm server had RJ-45 plugs coming out of it.

I redid the puck mirror image of the crimped end.
It worked.
In the meantime, wed reset the term server and didnt realize
that wed crashed all the hot standby machines.

Cisco term servers send a break when they reboot.
On unmodified Suns, the break on console port forces a halt
to boot monitor.

Restarted the machines.

Still cant get the RAIDS to RARP so we cant log into them but
we can mount them from ther server so we are halfway there.
Its past 1am and time to go. May have to work this weekend.
Money is good.

On the way back Toms phone went nuts with SMS messages.
Apparently it had been going quite a while and we couldnt
hear it in the co-lo. Seems that when we brought the machines
back up, not all processes started. Back in San Mateo we got everythng restarted.
