I survived xmas
2011-Dec-28, Wednesday 18:02I survived Christmas and that is an accomplishment for me.
We took down as much from the booth as we could closing night of Dickens.
While working, I started to feel the head fill with congestion.
Last week at work, I was working hard to get home at a decent hour and stay dressed warm as much as I could. I really did not want to go to my sisters place will a full blown cold.
Friday, I had planned to do my shopping. I had the day off but ended up sleeping all day.
I slept most of Sat too. Early afternoon, I crawled out of bed and made my way into the throngs of shoppers. There was 1 thing Id heard Walmart had and I tracked down my local location.
Walmart is a memorial to a very nasty individual and I prefer not to dignify he/its memory but I really needed to go there. Despite my dislike of the founder, I found the whole experience creepy. The store & their clientele creeped me out.
It was near impossible to find someone on staff too. I finally found someone, but the product is apparently an internet only item so I left empty handed.
The only thing I could think of for gifts was books. I wasnt sure what Id find at Barnes & Noble. Their selection seems narrower than Borders whom they took over. Emeryville was a zoo of traffic.
I enjoyed the 3 story high xmas tree in the plaza with its 8 inch diameter balls on it. Being steel, the branches were steady. The tree is made of welded together shopping carts. Somewhere there is an artist making a statement about the commercialism of xmas.
My worries eased when I discovered a whole shelf of Zombie books. That took care of younger niece. Older niece got the entire series of 3 musketeer books. Regrettably, I could find them in French which would have been an additional hit, but she loves historical novels.
My sister got the 50th anniversary edition of "The Adventures of the Mad Scientists club" and
its sequel. We loved that book and I didnt know about its sequel. I got a copy for me too. Bro in law, being an engineer, and a "Dexter" fan, a Dexter book whos story was never filmed, and a book on extreme tree houses. And Dad got books on oddball history of Southern California. There are a couple other things coming his way that didnt make it in time.
I was so wiped, I went back to bed as soon as I got home.
Xmas morning our departure was delayed as I finally got my wrapping done.
Boxing day had me back at Cow Palace to do final tear down on the booth and then dinner at the place whos pizza dough tastes the best better. Bronco Billy up the hill from Cal State Hayward. I think they had a sourdough starter in their pizza dough.
I dont as much as Im going to be allowed to do at work and am looking forward to the end of
contract. Theres more to do but they arent willing. For once, the gig is ending and Im not in a panic. If they renew me for the move, Ill take it. If they dont, Its been 4 times the length I went in for, so Im not complaining.
