Its been a crappy couple of months.
Before the bad news, check out this video: https://youtu.be/n1OCZRann8w
This is what heppens when people get cooped up too long.
Just as I thought the job search would improve, the cretins in DC managed to screw up and now most of the US is in lockdown.
Obama left Trump a whitehouse pandemic office, which Trump dismanteled and now blames Obama for the
pandemic.
While the Bay area order is due to expire in another week, the Governors order supercedes it and Im not sure there is an end date.
Looking at the numbers, there are some interesting as well as tragic things happening.
First, without testing everyone in the US, the posted numbers are bogus.
You need to test the entire population, and then keep re testing the negatives to see if they become positive.
S Korea did this and they are largely past this thing.
We did not, so we dont know how many people got off light with a crappy week and never talked to medical.
Those who test negative, we dont know if they get it later and then start spreading it around.
If you seriously track the negatives, you can predict when this thing will end.
Based on the bugus numbers posted in the US:
The US is about to become the #1 with this thing, with Italy & China slowly dropping.
New York is on a 7000 10000 15000 20000 25000 30000 37000 progression.
In about 2 days, they will be growing by 10k per day.
New Jersey suddenly rocketed past Washington state & California 2 days ago and should be increasing 1000
cases perday in about 2 days.
California was gaining on Washington and has now passed them, soon to be increasing 400 per day.
The last few days, Washington seems to be flattening.
This is interesting because Washington didnt go to a total lockdown until today,
but their half measures seem to have made a difference anyway.
Unfortunately, if we manage to beat this thing by fall and the financial markets roar back to life,
Trump will be a hero and win by a landslide.
I hate this, but I have to pray that the economy stays in the dumper til Dec.
By the time this thing hit Australia, the hot season was over, so we dont know what summer will do to this bug.
Watch Arizona.
By July, it will be 130 in Yuma AZ.
If AZ numbers climb and then suddenly drop, cross reference it to temps to see if its heat or social
distancing that did it.
If its heat, wait for the temps in the rest of the country to rise and that might hold it until this winter
when it will probably rebound.
For the current situation, Im expecting some improvement in about 12 weeks.
The tech industry is weathering this better than I thought.
I dont know how much longer I can hold out financially, however.
Im not as screwed as the leisure & entertainment industries, however.
I should take comfort in that, but its not helping.
Steves use of the barbarian birthday dirge for hand washing is cool.
Co vid nine teen has the same meter as hap py birth day.
You can sing it :
Pestilence has just hit town,
you yourself feel quite run down
Co-vid-nine-teen UGH! Co-vid-nine-teen
Cooping up intelligent people for periods of time does weird things.
We either crunch numbers or we rewrite songs.
Everything I was thinking of is now cancelled.
Southern Renfaire, half my public service events so far and probably the rest, all my computer usergroups,
havent heard about nothern or Dickens fair, but Im expecting them to be cancelled soon, and a whole list
of other things.
The most horrible thing that I have to deal with is the fact that hes not as stupid as I thought.
To be sure he does not read. He needs pictures. He has a 4th grade vocabulary.
Growing up, he didnt need to learn these things, he could just hire them out.
I realized with horror, recently WHY he doesnt read and WHY he has such a small vocabulary.
Its not a matter of stupidity and its not a matter of outsourcing his schoolwork.
This man has a learning disability that hes been able to hide with a combination of money and bragadoccio.
We are not supposed to call the learning disables stupid.
As a result, I am not forced to stop calling him the imbecile in chief, cretin in chief etc.
There is one thing that hes very good at.
This man is an incredible pitch man, on par with Barnum.
This year, there have been 2 trips to Sullys place in Willits.
Last year we were up there nearly every weekend between start of May and mid Aug.
The plan was to drop back to once a month this year, as we now have the guesthouse working as a base of operations.
In Feb, We testfired the portable Kerosene heater and it worked as long as you ran it full bore.
Throttling it down to low, it stinks.
The oil heater in the wall has a problem, wont ignite, but it tries.
Tried to light the water heater in the main house. I declared it dead.
Sharon commented on my attempts at lost causes, "If YOU are calling it dead, it MUST be!"
The plan was to replace it with a tankless.
The electrical panel on the mainhouse needs to have its meter turned on and we need to trace a bunch of
circuits before we dare.
The main breaker needs replacing too.
No luck at the local hardware store.
We brought in a breaker to match and they didnt have anything that matched.
Charles is staying in the backroom that was built behind the main house and needs hot water and needs to
get his power properly.
The romex running in the dirt over from the studio just cant remain.
Don & I ran a temporary over to the house panel to run until we check out all the other branches.
We didnt have a big list, this was mostly to look around and plan the rest of the trips.
The guesthouse has a working porchlight, a working overhead light in the kitchen and 2 working kitchen outlets.
Everything else is turned of until we can troubleshoot.
Im told that there is a short somewhere and we need to find it before lighting up the rest of the panel.
Don and I had time on Sunday to poke around.
We eventually figured out that the lighting breaker feeds kitchen light, kitchen sink light, bath light,
bath sink light and bedroom.
Why does only the kitchen main light work?
Why do all the others show 1 volt?
We dropped all the lighte except the kitchen main, taped and labeled all the wires.
At this point, it was getting dark and time to head home.
March trip.
We went up Saturday because we didnt want to deal with icy roads.
The hills had snow.
We got snow at the place on saturday night and off and on again on Sunday.
With daylight, we dripped the kitchen main light, redid the connections and saw full 120 at kitchen sink.
We had an open neutral up in the box!
Over an hour and a half, we got another light fixture working and another and so on.
A bit over 10 yrs ago, there was an electrical fire and several people had been messing with the wiring since and screwed things up.
I found a cut wire, spliced it and suddenly we had both living room lights and the sleeping porch.
We also verified that the circuit to the washouse(laundry shed off the porch) was good.
At this point 4 out of 8 circuits were working.
We went on to mount the tankless water heater.
We needed hardware to hook it up.
Sharon went to fuel the truck while Don & I went for hardware.
We kept re engineering the kit, and improving, so it took a while.
Eventually I heard Sharon at the other end of the store.
Last month, wed played Marco Polo in the store to find each other and the store staff joined in.
This time i remembered that SHaron & Sully used to "Bark" and "Squeek".
I barked, much to the surprise of the staff, but Sharon found us.
The water heater didnt ignite and we didnt know why.
I verified via long extension cord that the vertical freezer in the main house was a keeper as was the
gas dryer.
The jury is still out on the main house fridge though.
Still need to test 2 dishwaters and 2 washers next trip.
Don & I figured out why we couldnt find the right breaker.
The main breaker in that panel has different prongs off the bus bar for the main breaker and we were looking
for a breaker with the wrong back.
Don also figured out that circuit #3 went to Charles room and that the circuit was safe.
We probably didnt need to run that temporary line after all.
AFter dinner, we started checking out outlets in the guest house.
Again with that 1 volt stuff?
I also was unable to get the oil furnace to ignite even after Id had a month to look up troubleshooting
guides.
It was snowing, so we ran the portable kerosene heater.
Just before damn, I turned it down because we were burning a gallon every 4 hrs and this stuff was expensive.
Next morning I crawled around in the attic while Don reinstalled the globes on the light fixtures.
Thats when i figured out that all the rest of the outlets in the guesthouse were slaved off the overhead
lighting and we had another open neutral to chase.
Ive got about half the outlets totally disconnected, and next trip Ill finish the job and then rewire them
onto a breaker of their own.
Outlets and built in lighting should never be on the same circuit.
Late in the day, the sun came out and the snow began to melt.
The sound of running water got rather loud.
Some time ago, Willits had its aquifer contaminated with "hexavalent chromium" (Remember Aaron Brokovich?)
At that point, the well on the property was shut down and a city water line brought in.
Its pressure is so low that the property has a booster pump, and out first trip in May 2019,
we got it going for the first time in about 10 years.
It seems the pump has failed again and thats probably why the water heater wont trigger.
Too low presure safety probably is preventing the ignition.
With the lockdown in force, its uncertain whether the April trip will happen.
When the next trip does happen, we need to fix the pump, install the breaker and schedule PGE to send the start signal to the smart meter and see if we can Get Charles power working so that we can recover the
Romex cable out of the dirt. Hopefully test the washers and dishwashers and rewire the guesthouse outlets.
Originally repaining buildings and window sash repair were on the list, but thats not going to happen
with the lockdown.
These trips up to Willits are a welcome distraction from my depression.
They keep me busy so I dont notice the depression.
My Depressive swing in Feb was one of the lowest Ive ever had.
It was bad and it was very dark.
It might have killed me, but Sharon & Don brought me up to Willits and the distraction helped a bit.
Unfortunately, the jobsearch does not distract me from my depression.
If Northern Renfaire & Dickens get cancelled, Im looking at another very dark December.
This is getting long, so i better ring off.
